Creativity is intelligence having fun.
Albert Einstein
I’m going to come straight out and say it. Goldfaber Aqua Watercolour Pencils are some of the best on the market if you’re shopping on a budget. The Goldfaber Aqua Watercolour pencil is the little sister to Faber-Castell’s Albrecht Dürer Watercolour Pencil. If the Albrecht Dürer are out of your price range, then the Goldfaber Aqua are the ones to go for.
WHAT IS A WATERCOLOUR PENCIL?

The history of the watercolour pencil is a little foggy. It is widely believed that the watercolour pencil was developed around the 1940s, with several companies claiming to be the ones who invented it.
Much like the humble coloured pencil, a watercolour pencil includes compressed pigments and binder. In the case of the watercolour pencil, the binder is water-soluble. This allows the pigment to disperse when water is added.
Colour is added to a surface and the medium is then ‘activated’ when brushed with water.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR?
The typical thing to remember when buying watercolour pencils is don’t buy cheap. These pencils most likely contain more binder and less pigment. However, if you purchase the more expensive ranges, it is likely to have a better pigment ratio.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
This means that when you activate the medium, the vibrancy is impacted. The more expensive the product, the less binder and the more pigment the pencil holds. Furthermore, this means you are left with a lovely vivid pigment.
